2nd All-New Weekly eNewsletter: the Hottest Trends thru AW14!

I sent out today the second eNewsletter, which features the hottest trends all the way up to autumn/winter 2014!

If you have not subscribed to the new letter, you may do so here.

To read the newsletter, you may click on this link. Here’s the opening:

This week abounded in assorted trend reports, which predict the upcoming colors, fabrics, and styles all the way up to autumn/winter 2014!  It’s great to know what is trending on the horizon, so that when we shop for our clothes this year we will not be outdated next year!  And good news! Many emerging designers have already incorporated these new trends into their AW12 and SS13 collections.

Take the NINH Collection above for an example of the punk revival in stud and spike embellishments, which have transformed the classic prep look into a modern-day steampunk--a type of neo-Victorian, post-apocalyptic, science fiction soldier.

Well, not all emerging trends are so out of the ordinary. Solid takes us to the Nordic trails of lumberjacks, city Bohemians, and urban workers, while Bespoken pulls together in one look the toughness of the British woodlands and the classic tradition of Savile Row.

Finally, for all you folks who enjoy hunks in trunks, check out Geronimo, the swimwear and underwear label from the Black Sea!

Enjoy your reading and stay tuned: larger images are coming soon at MensFashionbyFrancesco.

Have You Read the All-New Weekly Newsletter?

Today I sent out the first all-new weekly newsletter entitled What's New with Emerging Menswear Designers & Trends Around the World? I hope you enjoy it.

If you have not yet subscribed, you may do so by clicking here.

Here is a sneak peak:

It has been an exciting week with fashion weeks and after parties raging around the world. So, what's trending for the upcoming AW/12 and SS/13 seasons? It's what I call "eclectic retroism."

As seen in G.P.P.R.'s AW/12 look (above), we can expect lots of striped chunky knits in a true Brit silhouette with an outdoorsy, almost into the woods feel. Colors long for the calm natural habitat of South American mountain ranges, while the rebellious spirit of the Sixties revives multi-color prints. Deep purples and reds on black and gold with a sparkle of the disco ball reminisce of the Seventies.

For spring/summer 2013, rebellion turns radical as trends go "old school" with floral prints, scoop neck tees, and sun-bleached denims. Colors appear vibrant like the flavors of a refreshing gelato in the summer heat: strawberry, spearmint, melon, limeade, and blueberry. Tailoring is geometric, semi-formal, and sleek, influenced by sportswear and composed of hybrid fabrics.

Street Eclecticism by Ray Vincente

Last Friday night, I went to center city Philadelphia to view the spring/summer collection by Ray Brown at Ray Vincente.

The runway show was hosted in an old refurbished mill with live music, punch drinks, and assorted hor d'oeuvres.

What I enjoy about Ray’s collections is his ability as an Afro-American designer to capture the feel of American streetwear, which he skillfully combines with European tailoring.

Goth Legion by Asger Juel Larsen

Imagine a Goth armoured in his bulletproof black outfit and signed off with a military monster footprint.

Now distract this man down the wrong dungeon, thumping him in an underground rave where the walls sweat acid and the crowd glow in the dark.

Asger Juel Larsen's ghetto grunge collection makes a mixtape of these two worlds, exploring the similar aesthetics of a relaxed aura and a polished Goth.

In loving memory of our good friend and work colleague Fabian Berner.

Lucid Disorder by Asger Juel Larsen

Asger's Lucid Disorder is introduced with a leather top that has a melting straight jacket aesthetic to it, deliciously darting between dreamy and dystopian.

There's an immediate air of sophistication to the start of this collection, with coats that focus on boldness rather than erratically shaped behaviour, and furry soviet hats that nestle the story into shape.

Lumberjacks & General Idea

I just received the most recent press release and collection of runway shots taken during New York Fashion Week. Here’s my take on the trends:

Having lived and worked in rural China, I find the inspiration fascinating, and what’s more impressive is the designers ability to interpret the image of the Chinese lumberjack into modern-day streetwear.

The collection utilizes several outdoors motifs, while it employs both color blocking amidst plaids, stripes, and other interesting patterns.

The color palette is mixed with vibrant colors and muted ones, with a pop of color from the accessories, such as the shoes and/or hats. The colors clash, but they do not conflict.

Jackets, tops, and overcoats are slightly oversized, while the laying of the same is executed delightfully.

Tiger of Sweden Spring/Summer 2013 Collection

In the 1960’s and 1970’s Tiger of Sweden US headquarters were based in the Empire State Building, New York City, from here they watched the relationship between art, music and fashion be explored beyond all boundaries by a new generation of artists.

20 years later this movement became the brand – artsy, and rockfish with a pioneering silhouette.

Today, a further 20 years on, Tiger of Sweden makes another interpretation of timeless pop culture when presenting the Spring-Summer 2013 collection: a playful tribute to the flamboyant and never party, where everyone is invited to play and create.
