The De-Crowned Collection by Designer Alina Jumabhoy

“Deep within the forests of a hidden land, near Japan, there lived a banished king forced to pay for his evil ways, the king faced the wilderness for seven years, and his daily fight for survival pushed his mind to the brink of insanity. His primal instincts flourished as his human intelligence diminished, leaving him to return to society with the mind of a beast and the heart of a boy...”

It is the aftermath, we find ourselves in an experimental atelier. Here, calm steady hands are observed mixing caustic pastes that are illusively being washed away once their work is done. Light modestly creeps through the stained windows, fabric swatches cover the tainted wooden floors.

Menswear Pays Tribute to the History of Art in Florence
October 6, 2012

Some of you who follow fashion shows may know Florence, Italy, from Pitti Uomo.  Others of you may be acquainted with Florence as the cradle of the Renaissance.

As for me, I will never forget my first visit to Florence; I must have been about 17 years old when I toured the city and visited the Uffizi Museum, one of the oldest and most famous art museums in the world.

For this autumn/winter season, Italian designer Stefano Ricci pays homage to the Uffizi Museum as he turns to life over a dozen oil masterpieces.  Although Stefano nearly duplicates the portraits in look and feel, he brilliantly recreates the fashion of each portrait for the modern-day man as seen in the photo above.

In addition to the emerging designers featured in this eNewsletter, definitely check out the latest collections of Ben Sherman, in which Mod Meets Rocker, and the urban sportswear of Lacoste.

Enjoy your reading and stay tuned: larger images are coming soon at MensFashionbyFrancesco.

Peter Nappi: 19th Century Style Boots

In 1904, Peter Nappi brought Italian boot-making to America.  Over 100 years later, his craft has been revived with a new offering of handcrafted footwear, bags, and belts. Peter Nappi boots, bags, and other dry goods embody the 19th century old-world style that transcends trends.

Stefano Ricci: a Salut to the History of Art at the Uffizi

Take a walk through the Uffizi Gallery with a step-by-step explanation of each portrait.

Oil on canvas, cm 80 x 61
Released from the artist’s collection in 1913, the portrait of Charles Emile Auguste Duran (called Carolus Duran) - born in Lille (France) in 1837 and died in Paris in 1917 - is documented in the depository of Palazzo Pitti’s Palatine Gallery in 1952 , and again at the end of 1969 (storage attic cd.). On July 4th, 1977, it became part of the collection of the Uffizi Gallery. Restored in 1989, it has so far participated in three exhibitions in Florence in 1977, Lille (France) in 2003 and in Beijing (China) between 2010 and 2011.
010 and 2011).
